Covid Safe Kitchen with Fresh Air Replacement

150 150 Northern Fan Services

Make your commercial kitchen Covid safe with a fresh air supply system.

The law pre-covid, stated that there must be an adequate supply of fresh air in any enclosed work space. This has not changed since the pandemic and is now, perhaps, even more important.

Due to the risk of aerosol transmission (when someone breathes in small particles in the air (aerosols) after a person with the virus has been in the same enclosed area), it is now more important than ever to have a fresh air supply to reduce that risk.

Aswell as reducing the risk of aerosol transmission, a mechanical fresh air supply system reduces CO2 levels in poorly ventilated, enclosed areas such as commercial kitchens.

Pictured above – an example of a recent fresh air supply system installed by our engineers at a hotel in Malton, North Yorkshire. Fitted into the external wall, the system comprises of a plate fan with 4 way diffuser, louvre and a replaceable filter to filtrate any bugs, dust and debris from outside.

Take a look at a recent publication by HSE detailing guidance for ventilation post-covid. Ventilation and air conditioning during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic (hse.gov.uk). Now the hospitality industry is running as normal, it is essential we make kitchens as Covid safe as possible with fresh air supply systems.

Canopy and Duct Install at Water Park Café

150 150 Northern Fan Services

Canopy and System Install – The North Yorkshire Water Park asked us to install a new canopy they had purchased online. The canopy was an off the shelf product and did not come with any ductwork. We supplied the ductwork and attended site prior to install to decide the best extract route with the team there. With a busy business with a lot of footfall and customers moving around the building, it is always best to extract up through the roof wherever possible to direct any fumes away from customers. We manufactured a roof cowl to install above roof level to disperse the air.

New Full Extraction System in York Restaurant

New extraction system install in York city centre. Bespoke made commercial stainless steel canopy. Kitchen extraction system fitted.
1.5metre bespoke made stainless steel canopy in DP1 fine grain stainless steel

This busy restaurant and grill house in York city centre called us as they needed a new full extraction system installing. The existing system was no longer sufficient for what they needed. An engineer attended site to complete a site survey to determine what system would be best for this location.

Once the client was happy we got the items in to production. As all of our systems are bespoke made, installation will go ahead roughly a week after a deposit is taken. The canopy was made to measure and included a filter bank and 2 x bafel filters (pictured above). Check out our canopies page at https://northernfanservices.co.uk/tailor-made-canopies/ to see how we could help your business with a new system.

The Corner Grill House, York.

The new full extraction system included canopy, filters, ductwork, extractor fan, speed control and all weather louvre. Installation took a day to complete.

Clients often contact us when their current system is no longer performing as it should. This is usually because the kitchen has grown and new equipment has been added, but the extraction system has not been extended to accommodate this. Have a look at this link from HSE detailing the guidelines for ventilation and extraction in catering kitchens https://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/cais10.pdf.
