Extraction system adjustments are, often, a simple and cost effective way of improving the working environment in the kitchen.

Our team were on site at the Alpamare Water Park in Scarborough to install some system adjustments and new ductwork in order to connect an existing extract fan in their plant room to the main kitchen canopy. By doing this, air flow rates were greatly improved in the kitchen, creating a safer and more comfortable work environment.

Another way to improve air flow in a commercial kitchen, is with the introduction of a fresh air replacement system. This is now a legal requirement for all commercial kitchens. These systems replace the air extracted out by the main kitchen canopy with fresh air from outside. Details of these systems can be found here.

Any commercial extract system should also undergo a regular clean and service, at least every 12 months. Not doing this regularly will greatly affect the performance of the system. Our team can also help with this. Just get in touch!

Roof Unit Plate Fans Serviced

Three roof unit plate fans serviced at a recent job for an automation factory.

Engineers accessed the fans externally and removed them from the roof to fully clean and service them before re-installing and replacing the cowls.

Annual Extractor Fan Clean

An annual extractor fan clean and service is a requirement for all commercial kitchens. Most commercial insurance policies will ask for evidence of this to comply with fire safety guidelines. Our engineers provide an excellent commercial cleaning service. We also service the motor to prolong its lifespan and ensure it is operating to the expected standard.

Following a fan clean and service, a certificate will be issued. Accompanying the certificate will be before and after pics of the clean. We always show the client pictures so they can be assured the clean has been done efficiently. Some insurances also ask to see these.

Many fans displaying some operating issues may just need a good clean and a service. Some symptoms of a heavily greased fan could be:

Fan change for Merseyside restaurant

18th January 2022

Recent fan change and system adjustment for a busy restaurant/bar in The Wirral.

Our team was contacted as the current fan was no longer working and was now out of production. We sourced a replacement that would provide the same level of extraction but would require some system adjustments. We installed a 560mm diameter short cased axial extractor fan with some square to round attachments and a 560mm diameter jet cowl to disperse air at roof level.

Our install team was on site within 2 days to install the new fan and adjustments.

Annual Fan Clean and Service

An annual clean and service for your commercial extractor fan is essential. It ensures good air flow, minimizes fire risk and prolongs the life length of the fan itself.

Our commercial fan clean and service includes the following:

Checking electrical condition of motor
Test capacitor and replace if necessary
Complete RPM check
Test speed controller and check compatibility
Full fan clean and refit

A recent clean completed on a Flakt Woods 56JM extractor fan in Doncaster.

It is a legal requirement for all commercial kitchens to clean and service their fan at least once a year and provide certification of this for their buildings insurance. Frequency of fan cleaning depends on level of usage (see table below)

Heavy Use	12-16 Hours per day	Every 3 Months
Moderate Use	6-12 Hours per day	Every 6 Months
Light Use	2-6 Hours per day	Every 12 Months

Centrifugal Fan Replacement – Manchester

Centrifugal fan replacement in busy Manchester bakery.

This busy Manchester bakery contacted us as their existing fan was no longer worked sufficiently. Due to its age, a replacement was recommended. As the existing fan was no longer in production, we sourced and installed a compatible replacement with new speed controller.

Common signs your commercial extractor fan may need replacing:

Reduced extraction/suction.
Sudden change in noise/ fan operating noisier than usual.
Fan not starting up straight away or cutting out during service.
If your existing fan is 10+ years old.

To help prolong the life-length of your commercial extractor fan, keep up to date with an annual fan service and clean. At the appointment our engineers will:

Next Day Emergency Fan Replacement

29th July 2021

Our team recently carried out this next day emergency fan replacement. This 560mm diameter Flakt Woods extractor fan was installed within a day of the initial breakdown at Double Tree Hilton, York. The original fan had gone down and it was determined that a replacement was necessary. Our team got the call late afternoon and engineers were on site to install the following morning.

Fan Replacement – Flakt Woods

Replacement Flakt Woods extractor fan, roof cowl supplied and installed. Fan replacement. — New extractor fan installed in Cleethorpes along with roof hood to prevent rain damage.

A recent fan replacement. Our client in Cleethorpes, North East Lincolnshire contacted us as their existing Flakt Woods extractor fan was no longer working. Our client was also not happy with the current fan, installed by a previous owner, as it was too powerful for his kitchens needs.

We sourced a fan replacement of the same size that was still compatible with his system. We were able to come out and install this within a couple of days. A roof hood vent was also required as rain was getting in to the system. The dome shape of the new hood pictured prevents rain being able to get in to the system whilst also providing adequate air flow.

This busy pub/restaurant just outside of Wetherby, West Yorkshire gave us a call as their commercial flakt woods extractor fan had become very noisy and wasn’t operating to its full potential.
